As soon as I wake up in the morning, the first thing I do, after hugging and kissing my husband is to hug and kiss my grandchildren, Tatiana and Noah, who are usually outside my bedroom door, being very loud, waiting for me to come out and say good morning. Thank you angels for being such an efficient alarm clock for me, my husband, your mother and everyone else on this side of the hemisphere!… I just adore my little munchkins, they have a great set of lungs and they know just how to use them.
Anyway, enough of me and my very “glamorous” life, filled with screeching screams from “heaven,” scattered toys that could kill me, sticky floors and door knobs. Allow me get to today’s story… like any other modern day writer and blogger, the first thing I faithfully do in the morning, even before “waking up” is to sleepwalk to the kitchen, kicking toys to the side in order to start the coffee or tea and turn on the laptop, all simultaneously… I am a multi-tasker, what can I tell ya! Yes, I do brush my teeth in between. Anyway, once the laptop is on and coffee in hand, I am usually abruptly woken up by the horror of some of Yahoo’s morning stories. Whhell, believe you me when I tell you that I was shocked this morning when I read a story on Yahoo.
Granted, this is not the first time that I am shocked by reading a Yahoo story, they are usually very “entertaining” to say the least, but this one in particular caught my attention. First off they wrote about how Michael Phelps, the most decorated Olympian in the world EVER, could lose his medals! Really? Why in the world would that be? Whhell, according to the article, pictures of Phelps posing with former Russian gymnast Larisa Latynina whose medal record Phelps broke, was leaked on the internet last week. But, that is not the problem, the problem is that the pictures, which were taken by photographer Annie Lebovitz, were for the purpose of promoting the fabulous French designer Louis Vuitton’s fabulous line of men’s bags. which goes against Olympic rule number 40. The infamous pictures now threaten to dismantle the world’s most decorated Olympian and record breaker, of his medals!
See, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has a rule set in place, rule number 40 to be precise, which states that Olympians are prohibited from promoting or talking about any and all products which are not sponsored by the Olympics from July 18th through August 15th.
So, that right there is a shocker, as stripping Michael Phelps of his rightfully earned medals would certainly be the scandal of the millennia and an embarrassment to our country… can you imagine Mr. Phelps who worked so hard to rightfully earn his medals being stripped of them? Not me! There must be a loophole somewhere, I mean the guy freaking earned them. It wasn’t a gift, HE EARNED THEM!
Shocker number two for me, was the way in which rule number 40 is written (and here comes what I think is a loophole…
